O Christ, our Teacher,
You invite Your faithful people to make disciples in Your name and to announce good news to the poor. We thank You for the gift of Catholic schools, where the message of Your life, death, and resurrection is proclaimed, Christian community is experienced, service to our brothers and sisters is modeled, and worship of You is cultivated.
Increase our zeal for ensuring that all children and families can benefit from a high quality Catholic education, and that Catholic schools grow in their ability to nurture the soul of our nation.
We ask this through the intercession of Our Lady, Mother of Catholic Schools. Amen.
J.M.J.
Dear Friend,
Praise be our Lord Jesus Christ!
At Bishop Baraga Catholic School, we are proud to offer a robust and well-rounded education that nurtures the intellectual, spiritual, and personal growth of our students from preschool through 8th grade. Our curriculum is thoughtfully designed to provide an exceptional academic foundation while fostering a deep sense of faith, critical thinking, and moral character—preparing students to excel in high school and beyond.
Our academic program integrates rigorous instruction across core subjects—Religion, Literature, Grammar and Composition, Math, Science, and Social Studies—tailored to each developmental stage. Beginning in pre-kindergarten students are introduced to foundational concepts such as phonemic awareness, early math skills, letter names and sounds, and handwriting readiness. As students progress through the elementary years (1st–4th grade), they engage with classic literature like Charlotte’s Web and The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe, master grammar and cursive writing, and build strong mathematical skills with Singapore Math. Science topics range from plants and animals to electricity and ecosystems, while social studies covers U.S. and Michigan history, geography, and key historical figures.
In the middle school years (5th–8th grade), the curriculum deepens, preparing students for advanced learning. Literature includes thought-provoking works, paired with extensive writing. Math advances from Saxon Math to Pre-Algebra and Algebra, ensuring a solid quantitative foundation. Science spans astronomy, life sciences, and earth systems, while social studies explores U.S. history, world geography, and civics, including government and current events.
Central to our mission is a rich Religion curriculum. From learning about the Blessed Trinity in Kindergarten to exploring Sacred Scripture and Theology of the Body in 8th grade, students grow in their faith and understanding of Catholic teachings. Sacramental preparation, scripture study, and lessons on living as disciples of Christ are woven into their journey, fostering a lifelong relationship with God.
Our approach emphasizes not only academic excellence but also creativity and critical thinking. Our curriculum enhance students’ ability to express themselves, analyze complex ideas, and apply knowledge practically. This holistic education is complemented by a focus on virtues, community, and service, ensuring that Bishop Baraga graduates are compassionate, capable, and confident individuals.
